We had trunk bags with expandable panniers, about 16 L volume. They were OK for tours in warmer weather, but a little cramped if we needed extra clothing for colder/wetter weather. These Ortlieb panniers offer about 25 L of volume, which seems to be just about right. They attach and detach easily, and of course they’re waterproof!!
