This is the classic work on British sport history, and the classic edition. The original work was published in 1801 and this edition was updated in 1903. The only bad things about this book are that the illustrations are reduced in size and there is no index. The reduction in size of the illustrations is regrettable since Strutt found most of them in the margins of medieval manuscripts, which makes them as valuable as the text. The lack of an index is unfortunate, but one can cope. The illustrations are primary source material so their reduction in size represents a major loss.Still, it is wonderful to have this book back in print
