I'll preface this review by saying two things. One, I don't write reviews....Ever..So this is rare. Two, I owned quite a few previous Tiger Woods golf iterations on older gen consoles, and played (and still play) Tiger Woods 14 (PS3) to death. I own almost every course in TG14 and have played it for 3 years straight. I recently bought a PS4 and I've been eyeing Rory Mac PGA Tour since its conception. Like others, I've held off on buying it due to the negative reviews and complaints. I finally decided to pull the trigger, buying a used (nearly new) copy on Amazon. Now I have just started playing the game (Jan 2017), so I understand that 1) the game's been out for a year and a half, and 2) quite a few updates have been made including patches and a number of new, free courses, all of which I downloaded before even firing up the game. So maybe I'm "spoiled" since I'm starting the game after almost 2 years of upgrades, but with that said...I'll just say this... THIS GAME IS FUN AS HELL and looks and sounds beautiful. As a long time Tiger player and a frequent, avid real life golfer, I'll just say that in my mind, this game blows TG14 away. The graphics are sensational. Water glistening, putter shimmering, every tree branch, acorn, twig, leaf, etc is modeled and looks amazing. The real life golfers in the game (McIlroy, Spieth, DJ) look awesome. The sound in the game is AMAZING. From the ambience of the crowd huddling nearby to the rippling of the water to the crisp ping of the ball of the driver face, this game nails it. Next, the commentary is just fabulous. As a frequent, weekly tourney Golf Channel viewer, hearing Frank Nobilo and partner call the round is just plain cool. And what shocked me is that throughout an entire 18 hole round, they almost never repeat themselves. They have plenty to say about the course itself or the golfer if you are playing one of the real life guys. Granted there are a few occasional mishaps in the commentary (saying I'm knee deep in rough when I'm in the fairway for example), but they aren't a big deal. Next, the physics and realism factor is better than ever. When playing in Tour Mode, the game is about as realistic as it gets. The physics are far better than ever, and shots look, feel, swing, and sound so much better than anything in previous tiger woods games. I found myself well challenged in Tour Mode, trying to shape a nice draw or fade off the tee and not slice it into the trees. Hit it too far into the trees in this game and, as in real life, you can find yourself with a horrible lie with absolutely no shot. Putting is a bit challenging too. One thing I don't like about the new putting is you're very much on your own in tour mode. One thing I liked about TG14 is it gave you the slope angles and such on the green which helped estimate the break in the putt. Now you have to rely solely on the gridline beads on the green.Other things...I like the shorter waits between holes. There's almost no load time anymore going to the next hole. One thing I wish they'd improve is having more game modes. For example, I wish there was a Practice Mode where you just hit on the Driving Range to practice shots or a practice putting green. Instead the only way I've found to get to a "driving range" is to play through the Prologue and intro stuff until you can pick that option.I haven't tried the career mode yet so can't comment on that yet, but I will, and may update this review when I have a chance. All in all, this game isn't perfect, but it is FAR from dismal like many reviewers have made it seem. Granted maybe it sucked when it first came out in 2015, but I can tell you that now in 2017, the game is pretty damn awesome. If you love golf and have been on the fence about getting this game as I was, get it!! It is a fantastic game and is boatloads of fun for anyone that loves golf, the PGA Tour, and Golf Channel.
