Thicker material than most duffles. Handles look durable and there is a shoulder strap included.This bag is giant and it is awesome if you need a heavy duty hauling bag.I fly internationally several times a year and I fill this bag each time with 50-70 lbs of gear.I bought it in July of 2015 and it has finally failed enough that I'm buying a new one in December 2020.Over time it developed small tears likely from baggage handlers and being rubbed along the ground while being dragged on conveyer systems. Each time the ripstop nature kept the tears from spreading.I used it for years with several holes large enough to get a pencil through, each time overloading it with up to 70 lbs.Only "real failure" was a couple years ago one of the plastic clips holding the shoulder strap finally broke from the weight. I just tied the end of the strap to the grab handle on the end of the bag and that bought me a few more years of hard usage. The only reason I'm finally replacing it is because after my last trip it now has a 4 or 5 inch long long slit in the bottom, probably from another case of it being loaded on a cart or conveyer and dragging at that point for a long distance. The rip won't spread due to the ripstop fabric, but its large enough now that small things could fall out. I'll probably still use the bag for carrying large gear in town, but no longer for international trips. Time for another new bag and (hopefully) another five and a half years of abusing it!Outstanding Value!I am a sailor who goes on long distance ocean voyages (e.g. 1200nm) and I need a good seabag that is big enough to carry all of my gear that is needed for long voyages and from hot weather areas (e.g. Florida) to cold weather areas (e.g. Maine, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland). I also wanted a bag that was big enough to carry whatever I needed in a single bag, because of how airlines charge fees now for each checked bag. I filled this bag with 40 pounds of gear and was only charged for one checked bag (make sure you stay under 25kg). This particular bag is very large, and easily contained my bulky cold weather clothing, my foul weather gear, my sea boots, my rolled up sleeping bag, my safety gear (PFD, Harness, Tether), ditty bag, extra clothing, fleece garments, and it still had room for more! Once on the boat, it was easy to collapse the bag to a smaller size for stowing it. The bag is well constructed, of what appears to be durable cloth. The hand straps go all the way around the bag. It comes with a shoulder strap. It has handy webbing handles on the ends, which makes handling it easier. I could use one of the hand handles over my shoulder for carrying if I did not attach the shoulder strap. It has a robust two slider zipper. My only caution is that the zipper is rather stiff, due to the stiffer heavier fabric. I think this is not a fault, just something you should anticipate and accommodate by pulling the fabric opening together with one hand while pulling the zipper pull or tab. I had no problems with the zipper. This bag is huge. So, if you don't need to carry so much, simply get one of the smaller sizes. I liked that I had "room to spare" in my bag, and I could have easily put swim fins and snorkeling gear or similar toys into the bag too. Very good value at this price point. It fits my small walker plus hour snorkeling gear and all our other toys. For other trips, it would fit both of our clothes, plus it’s really waterproof and durable. I’d buy this again!Saw a review on a TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Camp Pad/Sleeping Pad on Amazon and someone recommended this bag to put the mat in for storage. All the specs were good and so I gave it a shot and bought the bag. Couldn't be happier. The mat/pad fits in almost perfectly without any problems of trying to get it in the bag, just a little space left once it's in the bag. The bag seems sturdy and the make and finish is excellent. All of the stress points were sewed solidly with reinforcement stitches. The material of the bag itself seems good and appears to be water resistant although I have not used it around water or got it wet. Other than a little pricey just to house a pad/mat for storage and transporting the pad, definitely would recommend it.Update 6/21/17: I received the replacement bag on Sunday 6/18 as they said it would. I have closely inspected the replacement and found no flaws. I also was able to test it out carrying a bunch of sports gear with no issues. I'm convinced the defective zipper on the first bag was just a rare fluke, and Northstar Sports took care of it promptly to my complete satisfaction. I have upgraded to 5 stars to reflect my overall experience erased any initial disappointment, that the replacement bag demonstrates quality of product, and that North Star stands by their products and warranty.Update 6/15/17: I have been in contact Northstar customer service. They promptly responded to my report and are in the process of replacing the bag. I have upgraded to 4 stars for the time being based on their excellent efforts to take care of the issue. I am now very satisfied with their determination to stand behind their products and warranty. When I receive the replacement bag I will revisit this review again with another update.Disappointed in poor quality. Upon first use about 8 teeth of the zipper pulled right out of the fabric with no resistance. The plastic sling clips are also cheap flimsy plastic that bend away and becomes unclipped from the bag with barely any force. The rest of the bag fabric seems OK, but it's hard to call something tough when it fails so easily in the crucial zipper and should sling attachments. Now I get to see if their customer service and warranty process is any good. If they take care of me I will revisit this review.Used once as checked baggage on an airplane and it is already ripped.I bought this bag for the sole purpose of using it on my weekly trips to oil fields. Oil field sites are nasty places with all kinds of dust, grime or grease you could think of. That’s in addition to numerous places where your things could get caught or rip.This bag can certainly live up to that while keeping your belongings inside dry and clean. It still goes with me on a plane every week and she goes strong. Highly recommend to anyone.It looks like a nice duffle bag. I like the straps which wrap all the way around. I have had many bags where the handle tears off. It is quite large and roomy and the zipper looks quite sturdy, although I guess time will tell how sturdy. I have only had it a couple of months but so far I like it. Only thing I miss is having an end or side pocket otherwise it is fine.This bag broke after 5 months. My boyfriend uses it for laundry and the loop that the strap connects to rip right out of the seam. But I emailed pictures to the company and they were eager to replace it for me. The replacement came promptly free of charge and shipping covered. They didn't request that I ship them the broken bag.We bought these for our daughters who go to summer camp. They get thrown on a truck and get dragged to their cabins. They seem to be surviving. But I will have more info after the summer is over.
